Westboro Feminists

W

Here’s one of those tidbits I’ve learned in Seminary.

In Genesis 3:16, God tells Eve, “Your desire shall be for your husband,
and he shall rule over you.”

The phrase “desire shall be” is often interpreted to mean that women will fall all over themselves to please their man, but he’ll be an ass and lord it up all over them. But they’ll take the abuse.

That is often how that phrase is taught and understood. But assuming the author, Moses, wrote both Genesis 3 and Genesis 4, one chapter over we find the phrase again. It is also the only other time the phrase exists in the Pentateuch.

In Genesis 4:7, God tells Cain

If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door. Its desire is for you, but you must rule over it.

The “desire shall be” from Genesis 3:16 is, in Hebrew, the same as Genesis 4:7’s “desire is.”

In other words, it is not that a woman will fall all over herself to submit at all costs, but that the woman will want to rule over the man and the man will want to rule over the woman.

The goal is to, in marriage, become one. The desire of the woman to rule over the man and the desire of the man to rule over the woman must be set aside. Their complementary roles in the relationship, as help mates to each other, have to win out. And yes, men and women have complementary roles. They are not the same. Finding the balance between the two helps two unique people become, in essence, one.

That desire to rule over and . . . dare I say it . . . boss everyone around is coming out in what I think should be called “Westboro Feminists.”

They are in perpetual man-hating outrage.

Take the latest outrage over some guy’s shirt. I think that scientist’s shirt was a fashion faux pas and inappropriate to be worn at work. But the guy just landed a machine on a comet going 40,000 mph. But some Westboro Feminists were staggeringly outraged by the guy’s ugly shirt — a shirt a lady made for him and one my wife thought was neat.

These people could not give the guy a pass in a moment of victory. They had to have him apologize.

We see this more and more frequently. It is only a matter of time before these people show up at funerals demanding the descendants of the deceased apologize for the deceased’s misogyny.

Feminists rarely show humor and these Westboro types are in a perpetual stage of rage about everything. I think “Westboro Feminists” is the most appropriate term. There’s no placating their crazy and their desire is certainly to, as unruly as possible, rule over everybody else.

About the only thing worse than the Westboro Feminists are the guys who fall all over themselves to placate these people.

Men and women have complementary roles. Neither should win in the quest to dominate the other. But these Westboro Feminist types seem intent on winner takes all or, at the very least, setting the terms of surrender most favorable for themselves. The only way men and women win the battle of the sexes to to recognize their differences and complement each other. But the very idea of complementary relationships makes these people angry.
