The Georgia Republican Party, particularly Georgia’s Speaker of the House David Ralston, pushed through an aggressive billion dollar tax increase that is deeply unpopular with the voters. Ever since, any Republican who was seen as having the support of the Speaker has gone down in flames.

And now, voters have chosen a Democrat in a district that went for Mitt Romney.

The Republican that Taylor Bennett ran against was deeply flawed anyway, but he also had the support of Republican leaders who pushed through the billion dollar tax increase. Bennett, a Democrat, ran against the corruption and back room dealing of the Georgia Republicans in the House. Republicans on the outside refused to unite behind their heavily flawed candidate.

And now the Georgia House Republicans have lost their super majority.

David Ralston’s billion dollar tax increase is the gift that keeps on giving — to the Democrats in Georgia.
