Falling and Getting Up

The steps of a man are established by the LORD, when he delights in his way; though he fall, he shall not be cast headlong, for the LORD upholds his hand.

Isaiah 37:23-24

There are days when I screw up. I just flat out screw up. Sometimes I know it before I mess up. Often, it is the startling revelation afterwards that I’ve screwed up, messed up, sinned, or fallen. Often, the accompanying guilt weighs me down.

But that is part of the life of a person of faith. The other part is remembering that the process of sanctification is ongoing throughout our lives. We are sinners. But we are also forgiven. We strive to do better, but sometimes we sin. Read the words of Isaiah. We may fall, but we will not be cast headlong. God upholds our hand. God establishes our steps.

A Christian may sin and feel guilty, but we can repent and be forgiven. God’s grace is plentiful and He loves you. So be of good cheer.
