9 Hide your face from my sins,
and blot out all my iniquities.
10 Create in me a clean heart, O God,
and renew a right spirit within me.
11 Cast me not away from your presence,
and take not your Holy Spirit from me.
The Holy Bible: English Standard Version. (2001). (Ps 51:9–11). Wheaton: Standard Bible Society.
We are all sinners. We all fall short of the glory of God. There are times we stumble repeatedly into the same sin. It can darken our mind and darken our mood. And sometimes we withdraw from God, not him from us, because we are ashamed.
But God can cleanse us. All we have to do is ask, “Create in me a clean heart, O God.” We can pray for forgiveness. We can pray for healing. We can pray that God lift us up and draws us close. But first we need to accept that we cannot do it ourselves. We cannot create a clean heart in ourselves. Only God can do that.
Accept first that we must surrender to God, then let him change you. He can. And he will. All you have to do is invite him to do it.
