Protoevangelicum

P

15  I will put enmity between you and the woman,
and between your offspring and her offspring;
he shall bruise your head,
and you shall bruise his heel.”

The Holy Bible: English Standard Version. (2001). (Ge 3:15). Wheaton: Standard Bible Society.

Here at the fall, God even gives grace. This is the protoevangelicum — the first pronouncement of the coming of a Savior in the Bible. Note that the Savior will come from the woman’s seed, not the man’s.

Evil will be able to bruise his heel, but he will crush Satan’s head. The damage to the heel is not as damaging as the damage to the head.

Restoration comes. It will take a long time. But our hope is in the Lord. That is a hope given at mankind’s very first failure and it is a hope that we can hold onto even now knowing our Lord is not something yet to come, but has come and conquered death already.
