  • Naturally, 1,000 doesn’t seem very big compared to MAJOR wars. The two factors that are playing up this count are, IMO:

    (1) The argument over the validity of the war in the first place. Not “Have 1,000 soldiers died?” so much as “Should they have been fighting at all?”

    (2) It’s been so LONG since one of those wars! Congress hasn’t declared war since WWII, and all the recent conflicts have been politically-enhanced skirmishes in foreign nations, not giant Crusades For Freedom, FDR-style.
